Rakcham is in Kinnaur Dist of Himachal Pradesh and 240 Km from Simla and located between Sangla and Chitkul. It is also the second last village of India before the Tibet border. The last village is Chitkul which is approx 10 Km from Rakcham. The entire route is motorable and from Simla one need to travel via Rampur, Karcham, Sangla to reach this place. The total journey from Simla is about 12-14 hours depending on road condition. The journey is thru the hills and highly scenic – as such a day time journey starting early morning is advisable.
For those who intend to travel from Delhi the journey is approx 24 hours by car passing thru Ambala, Chandigarh and then Simla. One can break journey at either Simla or Narkhanda or Kalka for overnight and then start early for Rakcham. You can also take the Delhi – Kalka Satabdi which runs twice morning and evening to reach Kalka in 3 hours and then start for Rakcham.
In winter certain parts of the road are closed due to snowfall. This happens mostly mid November – so one must check before commencing journey. However, roads are normally cleared within 24-48 hours.

Hi Shefali,
This year we are expecting early snowfall. November 21st will be late – so if you are Ok with snow and if the roads are open then sure fun!
I would suggest you stay at Sangla and then travel to Chitkul – on route you will cross Rakcham. You can stay at Igloo Nature Camp in
Swiss tents with all facilities (http://igloonaturecamp.com) where I can get you some discount. Please let me know how many days you intend to stay.
You will need warm inner thermals /vests , warm socks, cap, muffler. Please carry torch, flask and medicines. The weather will be cold but the scene awesome!
Warm Regards.
