The Village
Jul 13th 2010
The village in Rakchham accommodates about 70 – 80 families. The entrance to the village is through a gate. However the roads are most filled with droppings from cows as this is the only way through which the herds are taken out every morning.
You would find a few wooden store houses near the entrance. These are locked and mainly used to store corn and other food stuff. There are three main temples in the village. One housing the local deity, one for Lord Shiva and the other one is a Buddhist shrine. many of the families have opted to build houses a little outside the village near the main road. There are hardly a few local shops selling daily necessities. Supplies come from the Kinnaur Dist. HQ at Reckong Peo or Sangla. Most of daily needs are produced locally and for other durables people occasionally make a trip to Peo or Sangla.
